Project Description:

The Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), located at the Stanwell Power Station precinct in Central Queensland, marks a significant step in Queensland’s transition to renewable energy. With a capacity of 300MW and four hours of storage duration, it is the largest committed battery project in the state.

The system will charge during periods of high energy generation and discharge during times of low generation or high demand, providing firming capacity and stabilising the grid with rapid response capabilities.

As the first phase in transforming the Stanwell Power Station into a clean energy hub, this project plays a key role in Queensland’s renewable energy future while delivering environmental and economic benefits for the region.

Our Role:

Construction Sciences has been engaged to provide construction materials testing services on early works for the Battery Energy Storage System. Operating through an annex laboratory supported by the Construction Sciences Rockhampton laboratory, Construction Sciences has delivered earthworks compaction control, soil and aggregate strength and classification tests, as well concrete testing, for this pioneering energy infrastructure.
