Project Description:
The Eastern Freeway Upgrade – Burke Road to Tram Road will add new express lanes, modern traffic management technology and the first stage of a dedicated busway between Doncaster Road and Hoddle Street. Works include a new interchange at Bulleen that connects the Eastern Freeway with the North East Link tunnels and the wider M80 Ring Road network. The program also delivers upgraded walking and cycling paths, new and improved bridges and underpasses, revitalised parklands and waterways, and new noise walls designed to meet stringent traffic noise standards. Park and ride facilities at Bulleen and Doncaster expand public transport access for Melbourne’s east.
This Burke Road to Tram Road package is the first of three Eastern Freeway Upgrades. Complementary packages will upgrade the corridor between Hoddle Street and Burke Road, and from Tram Road to Springvale Road, creating a continuous uplift from Hoddle Street through to Springvale Road. Together, the three stages will integrate with the new North East Link tunnels and the wider M80 Ring Road network to deliver a smarter, faster corridor across Melbourne’s north east, alongside better walking, cycling and
public transport connections.
Our Role:
Construction Sciences is delivering construction materials testing across the Burke Road to Tram Road section, supporting pavements, structures and earthworks. Our scope includes field density and compaction testing, laboratory testing of soils and aggregates, concrete quality control for bridges, retaining structures and noise walls, asphalt verification, and conformance reporting aligned with alliance requirements.
